On the inheritance of Lu Xun's spirit in Mo Yan's Wine Land

During the May 4th Movement, Lu Xun demonstrated ideological criticism and cultural criticism with diverse connotations through the image of man-eating in his Diary of a Madman. In the 1990s, this literary image appeared again in Mo Yan'sWine Land. From the standpoint of common people, the author not only consciously inherited Lu Xun's critical spirit , but also expressed his realization of the difficulties in reconstructing the traditional culture by deconstructing the image of a torchbearer or a reformer. Through a comparison between the literary images by the two authors, the paper attempts to prove that Lu Xun's spirit plays an important role instead of disappearing from contemporary Chines literary circle.
