Abstract
The contaminative characteristics of the effluent from bleaching and washing plants where wood and bamboo are used as raw materials are studied. The results show that the biodegradability of the effluent is poor, decolorization of the effluent by conventional active sludge process is not effective, color of the effluent will become darker as pH increases, the organic compounds with high molecular weight are the main source of the color and the soluble COD_(Cr) in the effluent, the organic contaminative compounds are electronegative colloid in the effluent and its ξ potential will decrease after biochemical treatment.
