On the linguistic term word

Word as a linguistic term usually denotes two different linguistic units morpheme and lexeme, which are on different levels in Chinese language system. A morpheme, which is essentially a kind of lexical field, so to speak, is composed of lexemes, but on the upper level of lexemes. Lexemes are made out of lexical components, and are the basic units of the lexical system. Therefore, it is tremendously helpful to de-ambiguity the terms: word, the theories of morpheme, lexical system, and part of speech.
