Abstract

Nitrogen removal by means of short-cut nitrifcation and denitrification under real time and fixed time control modes was studied in sequencing batch reactor (SBR) fed with soybean wastewater. The results show that rates of nitrification and denitrification under real time control are respectively 1.40 and 1.86 times of those under fixed time control, and the time of nitrification and denitrification under the above control mode is 60 minutes and 25 minutes respectively shorter than the traditional operating mode. Therefore, use of OPR and pH as real time control parameters for short-cut nitrification and denitrification process can not only control reasonably the aeration and mixing time, but also improve nitrification rate and shorten reaction time, and thus reducing the operating cost.
