Abstract

The aim of this work is to simulate the process of extractive distillation with salt for purification of ethanol from the ethanol- water binary system. All the work was developed by PRO/II software, version 5.10, having as goal to get the anhydride ethanol(99. 8wt. % ) . The module for calculating activity coefficients of mixed - solvent electrolyte systems that was embedded in PRO/II by this work was programmed with user - added subroutines provided by PRO/II, using the modified LIQUAC model[1] . In the development of this study, the extractive distillation with salt for recovering anhydrous ethanol, in which the ethylene glycol solution with salt is selected for the agent, was simulated successfully , and the results accord with those of the industry production with satisfying accuracy. Finally, a comparative study among the processes of extractive distillation with salt, saline extractive distillation, extractive distillation without salt(conventional extractive distillation) and azeotropic distillation was carried out.
