On Euphemism Flouting Cooperative Principle from the Perspective of Communication Accommodation Theory

From the cross-cultural perspective,this paper analyzes euphemism that fails to obey cooperative principle in terms of the maxims of quality,quantity,relevance and manner on the basis of Communication Accommodation Theory.The study indicates that cooperative principle-flouting euphemism,while violating cooperative principle superficially,is actually the pragmatic strategy for the conversational cooperation between the communicators.
