Abstract
To investigate the possibility of using hydrogen peroxide as the curing agent for urea formaldehyde resin, single factor and orthogonal experiment designs were applied. The results showed that compared with traditional curing agent of ammonium chloride, hydrogen peroxide provided longer pot life, greater resin reactivity, lower curing temperature, higher reaction heat, and higher curing ratio and hence generated higher bonding strength for the plywood at a relatively low temperature. Hydrogen peroxide also revealed the ability of lowering down the free formaldehyde content, but it showed little effect on reducing the formaldehyde remission of the plywood.
