Abstract
The relationship between the natural mechanics properties and formability of sheet metals was explained. The technical features of the general and complex forming processes for sheet metals were clarified. The methods of selecting sheet metal were discussed for the general and complex forming process. The new method of using grey incidence decision-making theory to select sheet metals was proposed for press forming. As an example of this method, the calculating steps were briefly illustrated how to select sheet metals for an autobody-workpiece forming, which can be used as a methodological reference of selecting sheet metal in press forming based on the GB/T 15825《Sheet metal formability and test methods 》.
