On the Symbolic Significance of the Yi People's "Three Dances" in Shuangbai County

Abstract

The Tiger Dance,the Big Gong Dance and the Little Leopard Dance remain popular in the Yi people's villages of Shuangbai County,Yunnan Province.The dances display their own cultural and symbolic significances in a natural way.Aseries of taboos indicate that emphasis is laidto the religious rites of the Yi people.The farming rites represent a good harvest for the Yi people.The sexual rites show the Yi people's good will for reproduction.
