Diagnosis and treatment of biliary complications after liver transplantation

Abstract
Objective To appraise the diagnosis and treatment of biliary complications after liver transplantation.Methods To summerize and analyze the data of one hundred cases from 2002 to 2004.Results The successful rate of operation reached 95%, the mean follow-up period was 14±13.2 months (1～27 months). Biliary complications occurred in approximately 10% (ten cases), There were one biliary fistula, two leakage above the hepatic section (split from liver transplantation), two biliary strictures and two biliary anastomosis obstruction, three with biliary calculi. One patient was retransplanted and all others were satisfactory.Conclusions Biliary complications are common after liver transplantation and once the complication occurs with proper management, it will not affect the long-term survival of the patients.
