Abstract

At the turning of the century, Japan, one of China's close neighbors, is actively engaging itself in the work of constructing a national security strategy towards the 21st century, This strategy for the new century is supposed to be based on the analysis and judgement of the international situation of the 21st century, with the pursuit of national interest as its ultimate goal. Compared with Japan's national security strategy for the entire 90s period, the new one presents some new features, not only on the position of national security interest, but also on the approaches to fulfill various national security interest goals. This will fundamentally change the nature of Japan's national security strategy.
