Abstract
Objective To investigate the changes of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and amino acids in different cerebral cortex regions in local cerebral ischemia cats. Methods Local cerebral ischemia in cats were produced by permanent occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) via the transorbital approach. The probes of microdialysis and the Laser Doppler flowmetry monitor were fixed on the skull for detecting the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) at the brain cortex surface and the changes of amino acids in the brain cortex in the same site. Results The CBF in the temporal and occipital was decreased to 21.44 % and 23.61 % separately when the MCA was occluded and reduced slowly to 15.74 % and 9.96 % respectively at 2 h.The level of glutamate in the microdilysate was increased about 80 times as compared with the normal condition in both points. Conclusion After MCA occlusion the rCBF and release of Glu are similar in temporal and occipital cortexs of cats.
