Correlation between Algae Cell Density and Water Pollution Indexes in Drainage Area around Taihu Lake

Objective To study the correlation between the algae cell density(ACD) and water pollution indexes in the drainage area around Taihu Lake.Methods The algae cell density(ACD) and water pollution indexes,including water temperature(WT),pH value,dissolved oxygen(DO),permanganate index(CODMn),ammonia-nitrogen(NH3-N),total nitrogen(TN),total phosphor(TP),TN/TP,chlorophyll-a(Chla),nitrate-nitrogen(NO3-N),total organic carbon(TOC) were continuously monitored in nineteen monitoring sites around Taihu Lake from July 2009 to June 2010.Results The main pollution indexes were TN and TP.Compared with the level Ⅲ limits in GB3838-2002,the qualified rates of TN and TP were 11.7% and 39.6%,respectively.When the correlation between algae cell density and related water pollution indexes was analyzed by correlation analysis,ACD had the significant positive correlation with WT,CODMn,Chla and TOC,whereas,DO,TN,TN/TP and NO3-N presented the significant negative influence to ACD(P0.05),no correlation with pH,NH3-N and TP(P0.05).Conclusion In the present study,a significant correlation between the algae cell density(ACD) and water pollution indexes in the drainage area around Taihu Lake has been seen.
