Abstract

The force center and the stiffness center of the plane irregular frame are not coincidence,it will cause torsion which will limit the exertion of resistant capacity of frames.A simplified method to estimate the overall ultimate resistant capacity of steel frame structures under horizontal load in plastic design is given with complete calculation process and formulas,and nine frame models are calculated by using finite element analysis software ANSYS.Comparing the results of the resistant capacity of steel frame structures under horizontal load between finite element analysis and simplified estimation method,it is proved that this kind of simplified method is tended to give an acceptable and safe result.
