Effect of Deficit Irrigation on Water Consumption and Yield of Winter Wheat

Through a series of leaching-pond experiments,the effect of different degree deficit irrigation on the water consumption and yield of winter wheat is analyzed.The Jensen model is selected to describe the relationship between the yield and water consumption in different growth stages.The results show that deficit irrigation is beneficial for the decrease of the water consumption of winter wheat,while the yield decreases as well.The effect of deficit irrigation on the yield of winter wheat is the most sensitive during the heading and grouting stage,which should be avoided.The mild deficit irrigation is good for the higher water use efficiency during the seeding-jointing and jointing-heading stage.Deficit irrigation shows little effect on the yield of winter wheat in grouting-maturity stage,during which some measures could be used to regulate the water deficiency and decrease the total water consumption.
