Study on Effect of Comprehensive Nursing Intervention on Recovery and Quality of Life in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Patients Received Radiotherapy

Abstract
Objective To study the impact and effectiveness of comprehensive nursing intervention on recovery and quality of life in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients received radiotherapy.Methods One hundred and twenty-five nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients hospitalized in Department of Radiotherapy,Tumor Hospital of Hunan Province from February to August 2010 were randomly divided into intervention group and control group.The patients in intervention group were received comprehensive nursing care on the basis of conventional nursing.Questionnaire with FACT was applied to survey the patients before and after the intervention.Results The side-effect in intervention group was mainly Grade I,accounted for 73.85%.But the side-effect in control group was mainly Grade II,accounted for 46.47%.And the difference was statistically significant between the two group(χ2=24.78,P0.05).After the intervention,the total score of quality of life and other sub-aspects of QOL in the patients of intervention group were significantly higher than those in control group,and the difference was statistically significant between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusions Applying comprehensive nursing intervention can effectively reduce the degree of the side-effect and increase the quality of life in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
