Analysis on the Outbreak Situation of Acute Schistosomiasis Cases in Four Counties in Hubei Province in 2004

Objective To explore the causes of the outbreak of acute schistosomiasis and the effective control strategies. Method The outbreak situation of acute schistosomiasis in four counties in Hubei province in 2004 was studied by field investigation. Results Among the 55cases (48 confirmed cases,7 probable cases) ,31cases are male and 24 cases are female. The oldest patient was 57 years old,while the youngest patient was only 5 years old.27 patients were fanners and 25 were students. 26 cases infected through playing and swimming and 21 cases through working in the farm and daily activities. Conclusion In order to control the epidemic of acute schistosomiasis, the most effective methods are to improve the quality of snail investigation and eradication in spring, and to provide health education for students and farmers.
