Abstract
Objective To assess the efficacy of different doses of atorvastatin on lipid levels and ner-vous function in the treatment of acute cerebral infarction. Methods Patients with acute cerebral infarction were randomly divided into 4 groups:treatment without atorvastatin(group A),with atorvastatin 10 mg/d(group B),20 mg/d(group C) and 40 mg/d(group D).The fasting serum levels of total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),triglyceride(TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) and neurologic functional deficit scale were determined before medication and 14 d after initial medication,re-spectively.Results The level of TC was reduced in every group after treatment(P 0.05).TC reduced with the increase in dosage of atorvastation(P 0.05),and the most significant reduction was seen in group C and group D(P 0.05,for all). After treatment, the level of LDL-C was reduced in every group(P 0.05),and the reduction in group B,group C and group D was significant than that in group A(P 0.05,for all).In compar-ison with before and after treatment,no significant changes of the levels of TG and HDL-C were seen in all groups(P 0.05,for all),and there were no statistical differences among all groups(P 0.05,for all).Though neurologic functional deficit scale in every group was significantly improved after treatment(P 0.05),there was no statistical difference in changes among 4 groups(P 0.05).Conclusion Lipid regulation therapy with atorvastatin(10,20 and 40 mg /d) is a safety and efficacy treatment in acute cerebral infarction. It is suggest-ed that 20 mg /d is the optimal dose of atorvastatin.
