Abstract
Objective To investigate the variability of blood pressure (BP) in 3 consecutive measurements and its influence factors. Methods After 15 minute resting, BP was read by a senior experienced physician using the same calibrated mercurial sphygmomanometer in 2020 adults (male 994,female 1 026) in 3 consecutive with 2 min interval. Body weight, height, hip and waist circumference were recorded. SBP and DBP variability (ΔSBP and ΔDBP) was defined as the difference between the maximal and the minimal SBP or DBP respectively. Results 1. In 20% adults ΔSBP was over 10 mm Hg and in 33.4% adults ΔDBP over 5 mm Hg. 2. Before 65 years old, ΔSBP in female was significantly higher than that in male, but ΔDBP showed little difference between two sexes. 3. About 50% of the maximal SBP occurred in first reading, and this group had the largest ΔSBP. Conclusion 1. The difference is quite large in three SBP readings within 10 minutes in 30% adults. 2. Female and aging had impact on the increase of ΔSBP. [
