Abstract

Objective:To investigate the prevalenc e of Porphyromonas gingivalis and its FimA genotypes in Chinese periodontal pockets. Methods: Porphyromonas gingivalis and its FimA genotypes in periodontal pockets from 40 subjects with adult periodontitis were detected w ith PCR.Results: The prevalence of P gingivalis in periodontal poc kets was 87 5%. In the P gingivalis-positive subjects, the most prevalent FimA genotypes was genotype Ⅱ(60%),followed with genotype Ⅳ(37 1%), genotype Ⅰ(22 9%),genotype Ⅲ(17 1%),genotype Ⅴundetected.Genotype Ⅰ was always co -infected with genotype Ⅱ in the periodontal pockets. Conclusion:FimA genotype Ⅱ of P gingivalis was involved in the development of anult periodontitis.
