Abstract
Zhang Jian is a well-known industrialist in modern China. To study Zhang Jian' s relation with the Revolution of 1911 will help us to know better about the capitalist class after the Revolution and the characteristics of the national bourgeoisie. Zhang Jian' s behavior before and after the Revolution could be summed up in the following three points: 1. His attitude toward the Revolution changed from resistance to acceptance. 2. He eventually came to the side of Yuan Shi-kai in the struggle between Sun Yat-sen and Yuan Shi-kai. 3. After the Revolution he continued his industrial projects, and contributed a lot to the construction of national education and culture.
