Abstract
Objective To study the expression of p53 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) proteins in primary cervical carcinomas and its clinic significance. Methods The expression of p53 and PCNA proteins in 35 cases with cervical carcinomas and 30 cases of normal cervical tissues was detected by supersensitive ElivisionTM immunohistochemical method. Results ①p53 positive expression rate in cervical carcinomas 85.71%(30 /35) was significantly higher than that in normal cervixes 6.67%(2 /30),P= 0.001.②p53 expression is correlated with the differentiation state and pathologic grades. The positive expression rate of p53 in the cervical carcinomas of grades Ⅰ 57.14%(8 /14) was significantly lower than that in the cervical carcinomas of grades Ⅱ 86.67%(13 /15) and grades Ⅲ 100.0%(6 /6),P0.05.③The positive rate of PCNA in the cervical carcinoma of grade Ⅰ 64.29% was signifi cantly lower than that in the grade Ⅱ 93.33% and grade Ⅲ 100.0%,P0.05.Conclusion Our data indicate that the alteration of p53 is involved in cervical carcinoma.Over expression of both p53 and PCNA may play important roles in the tumour genesis, progression and malignant behavior in cervical carcinomas. The detection of p53 proteins and PCNA can be used to evaluate malignant degree and prognosis of the cervical carcinoma.
