Abstract

The importance of background knowledge in reading comprehension was analyzed from the angle of schema theory.Combined with the survey conducted among the freshmen,and the statistics,the conclusion is reached that the main reason causing the different understandings between the students with higher language proficiency and those with lower proficiency lies in the one that whether relevant background knowledge can be appropriately activated during the reading process.
