Abstract

The effect of submerged entry nozzle structure on flow field of slab casting mould in Nanjing steel plant was studied. The results of water modeling experiment show that there was appreciable fluctuation of the liquid in the mould with obvious exposing of metal surface and entrapping of mould powder while using the present submerged entry nozzle. This did not meet the requirement of increasing casting speed.A better fluid flow field with good mould powder covering was obtained by properly increasing the outlet area of the submerged entry nozzle and without any change of the other geometry parameters or submerging depth. The results of practical application show that the modified submerged nozzle can satisfy the requirement for increasing casting speed and improving slab quality.
