Abstract

The ballooning-mode eigenequation for circular tokamak is solved analytically to obtain the dependence of the critical pressure gradients on q-italic-profiles. It is found that considerably high-B stable equilibria can be obtained by current tailoring to produce proper q-italic-profiles in which q-italic value decreases from the centre towards the edge of confined plasmas.
