Abstract

The spherical, monodispersed, ultrafine cobalt powder has been fabricated by reducing cobalt hydroxide with glycol. The effect of cobalt hydroxide dosage on the morphology and particle size was investigated. The particles were characterized by the X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscope(SEM), laser diffraction particle size analyzer and BET specific surface analysis. The XRD shows that the cobalt powder exists mostly in face centered cubic (fcc) structure, a little in simple hexagonal. While the adding of Co(OH) 2 is 60 g/L, the cobalt powder's average particle size, specific surface area, chemical content of cobalt powder were 0.88 μm , 3.46 m 2/g and more than 99.5% respectively.
