Abstract
The authors identified 167 surface sediment samples which were collected from the northern Bohai Bay.Heavy mineral analysis shows that there are 39 kinds of heavy minerals found in the study area. And heavy minerals in the study area can be divided into 3 mineral provinces according to the Q-cluster analysis.AreaⅠ is characterized by high content of pyroxene, epidote, metallic mineral and stable mineral.Minerals are mainly affected by the sediments of Luanhe River.Area Ⅱ is characterized by high content of amphibole, mica group. The major source is the Haihe River—Yellow River. The content of minerals in area Ⅲ is medium. The minerals are mixture source. The mineral provinces show the influences of material source and hydrodynamics on heavy mineral distribution.
