Phase Compositions of Vermiculite from Yuli of Xinjiang

Abstract

In order to enhance the value of vermiculite from Yuli,Xinjiang,and phase compositions of the vermiculite were investi-gated by X-ray diffraction,infrared spectroscopy,thermogravimetric–differential thermal analysis,and chemical analysis.Results indicate that sample contain two types of vermiculite–mica mixed-layer minerals with vermiculite/mica mole ratios of 6:4 and 4:6,respectively.Neither of these two mixed-layer minerals is strictly regular in structure.Phlogopite is identified as the main type of mica and mica layer in mixed-layer minerals,and the two types of vermiculite are Mg-vermiculite and Na-vermiculite.X-ray diffrac-tion matrix flushing analysis(K value method) shows that the contents of vermiculite,mica,vermiculite–mica mixed-layer mineral Hy-a(vermiculite/mica mole ratio of 6:4),vermiculite–mica mixed-layer mineral Hy-b(vermiculite/mica ratio of 4:6),and calcite are 1.21%,49.96%,11.72%,27.82%,and 9.30%,respectively.
