Abstract

abstractsed on recent literature and research work of myself, the control of steel cleanliness in the process of converter-ladle refining-continuous casting and the influence of the inclusions on product quality were reviewed. The oxygen content before BOF tapping is the main source of inclusions, so the oxygen content at end-point of converter blowing must be reduced as much as possible. The BOF end-point oxygen content predicting model is established according to statistics of production data. Three patterns of deoxidation and controlling methods of deoxidation products for Si-killed steel, SiAl-killed steel and Al-killed steel are introduced. The elimination of inclusions from molten steel before casting into mould using ladle refining operation and tundish metallurgy is the key practice to obtain clean steel. Predicting model of total oxygen content in RH, LF and tundish is introduced. The metallurgical measures preventing the re-pollution of clean molten steel and further elimination of inclusions during the process of continuous casting are also taken into account.
