Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery(VATS) for thoracic diseases in order to promote the minimally invasive surgery. Methods Data of 94 cases of thoracic diseases treated by VATS were retrospectively analyzed. And the effect was evaluated. Results For all the patients, the incision was beautiful, the average operative duration was 140 min(40~300 min),the average blood loss was 105.8 ml(10~800 ml),the average length of postoperative stay was 8.2 days(3~20d) and the success rate of operation was 98.9%.One patient after operation underwent second thoracotomy. No perioperative death occurred. And the hospitalization expense of patients treated by VATS was the same as that treated by traditional thoracotomy. Conclusion VATS for thoracic diseases is mini-invasive and safe. The incision is beautiful.Patients recover quickly. It could be the conventional choice of operation for certain patients and is suggested to be used in hospitals of underdeveloped cities.
