Abstract

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of spironolactone on isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) in the elderly. Methods Fifty-six patients were randomly divided into two groups.30 patients in control group were treated with nifedipine (Gis 30 mg/d);26 patients in treatment group were treated with nifedipine (Gits 30 mg/d) combined with spironolactone (60 mg/d),with a treatment course of 12 months for both groups. The parameters of ambulatory blood pressure and office blood pressure were observed and compared between two groups. Results Both drugs could decrease systolic pressure and improve blood pressure rhythm, however, the effect in treatment group was more obvious than that of control group, and which could obviously decrease pulse pressure. Conclusion Spironolactone can decrease SBP in ISH patients and improve blood pressure rhythm, and can relieve the damage of target organs and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
