Abstract

Taking a tailing dam in Yunnan as the research object, the dynamic response of the dam under action of earthquake is simulated with GeoStudio software, and the seismic dynamic response of the dam with respect to stress, displacement, liquefied area and permanent deformation during the earthquake analyzed. The results show that,in the process of earthquake, stress concentration occurs below the junction between the fill dam and the initial dam,the maximum horizontal displacement of the dam occurs in a position below the fill dam, which will produce permanent deformation and cracks, earthquake causes a large liquefied area of sediments. The stability of the tailing dam is calculated with Sweden Arc Method, showing the minimum safety factor being 1. 572,which is greater than the standard value, indicating the tailings reservoir is stable in the case of earthquake.
