Abstract
Objective To detect the plasma concentration of B type natriuretic peptide(BNP) in patients of essential hypertension(EH) with various left ventricular morphology. Methods Seventy-eight patients with EH and 18 healthy controls were examined by echocardiography and the plasma concentration of BNP was measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results According to left ventricular morphology, the patients with EH were further divided into four groups: normal, concentric remodeling, concentric hypertrophy and eccentric hypertrophy. The plasma concentration of BNP in four strata significantly raised, there were significant difference in control group[(38±19) μg/L] and in four strata left ventricular morphology (F= 41.17, P 0.01) and the levels in turn were eccentric hypertrophy[(782±407) μg/L], concentric hypertrophy[(446±368) μg/L], concentric remodeling[(194±63) μg/L] and normal[(94±41) μg/L]. Conclusion Levels of BNP raised in all groups of patients with EH and differed significantly in strata patients with left ventricular morphology and healthy controls.
