Abstract

AFLP (Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism) is one of the newly developed DNA fingerprint techniques based on PCR and the RFLP (Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism) techniques. High polymorphisms, good reproducibility, low usage of DNA template amount and no requirement of prior knowledge of genome sequences are advantages of AFLP. AFLP has been applied widely in construction of genetic linkage map, assessment of genetic polymorphism, pedigree analysis, breeding practice and gene positioning. In this paper, the principle, characteristics of AFLP and its applications in marine biology were introduced and discussed.
