Abstract

The paper discusses concepts of unconventional, tight and shale oils gases in broad and narrow senses as well as the relevant understandings of them.In the 1970s ~ 1980s,the concepts of unconventional oil gas became more prevalent and the related discussions feature clear mark and limitations of the times.Shale formation as a whole is not targeted for oil detection by the traditional petroleum geology. When developing it as a new field for unconventional oil and gas reserves, the non-shale band, even intercalated rock member, may not be excluded.Shale formation may be listed in the first batch of dessert to be developed.Symbiotic relationship of various oils and natural gases is the geological and resources bases for big expansion of US shale gas to the development of shale oil,and also stands as the key factor for the fastest increase in US oil and gas production in recent years. In Europe and America, shale oil is usually classified into the tight oil category. As most shale oils developed are light,it is more often known as tight light oil.Oil shale does not contain any crude oil and its distillation is petroleum product other than the crude.
