Clinical observation of tropicamide in treatment of adolescent pseudo myopia

Objective To evaluate the clinical effects and value of 0.25 % tropicamide topically dropped in treatment of adolescent pseudo myopia.Methods This was a retrospective,consecutive study,which included 100 adolescents who were firstly diagnosed psudo myopia and then prescribed with 0.25 % tropincamide topically dropping every night at our hospital between June,2004 and June,2007 with intact records.The uncorrected distance acuity before mydriasis was recorded.The uncorrected distance acuity,BCVA and static diopters after mydriasis were recorded 30 minutes after 6 to 8 drops of 0.5 % compound tropicamide every 5 minutes.The patients were then topically dropped with 0.25 % tropicamide twice a day at night,at intervals of 10 minutes.The above parameters were recorded after 14 days' medication.Results The uncorrected distance acuity before the mydriasis were all improved(P0.01) and the static diopters decreased(P0.01) in most patients after treatment.Conclusion 0.25% tropicamide is effective in treatment of adolescent pseudo myopia and can be recommended as primary treatment.
