Abstract
Yield analysis and high yield breeding of faba bean( Vicia faba L.) in the latest 30 years were reviewed.The results of faba bean yield analysis showed: (1)Biological yield was the basis of economic yield,and the relationship between them was very high and positive;(2)Yield components acted positively to yield but the improvements of yield components were restricted by the negative relationship between the number of pods or kernels and kernel weight;(3) Harvest index was stable and significantly positively related to yield. Selection of high pod setting ratio and early maturity and how to coordinate the relationship between number of pods or kernels and kernel weight in high yield breeding of faba bean were also discussed.
