Abstract
Objective:The aim of this study was to assess if there was a significant difference of the crown to root ratio between male and female permanent teeth in Chinese people in Shanghai.Methods:1 400 extracted teeth were collected between 25-35 and the crown length(CL) and root length(RT) of permanent teeth were measured by a precise caliper. There were 700 male and 700 female extracted teeth.Statistical analyses were performed with the SPSS 17 software by the Student's t-test method.Results:The mean crown length of permanent teeth of male was found to be larger than female except for the maxillary central incisor and the mean root length of male was found to be comparatively larger than female. Conclusion:There was a significant difference in RT/CL between male and female maxillary teeth and in these mandibular teeth.The RT/CL ratio of male tends to be larger than female in the Shanghai population.
