Application of Finite and Infinite Element Coupling to Stress Analysis of Foundation-Dam System

Abstract

The coupling model of infinite and finite elements is built based on combined action of dam and foundation.A plane problem with an exact solution is analyzed by the conventional finite element method and the finite-infinite element coupling method based on ABAQUS program.Simulation on infinite or semi-infinite domain by the finite-infinite element coupling method is more accurate and precise.The static and dynamic response of Tingzikou dam is studied.Results show that compared with the conventional finite element method,the finite-infinite element coupling method is more precise with less amount of computation,offering a simple,logical,and accurate method for similar problem of infinite or semi-infinite domain.
