Abstract
Because the length of spatial data is usually uncertain,the memory-efficiency will be lower if the magnanimity of GIS data is processed by relational database.Furthermore,the present SQL can't support the spatial data.So,the realization of the data's memory,read,search and management between spatial data and DBMS is needed.It presents the concept,essence and characteristics of SDE,and introduces in brief MAPGIS7.0.
