Abstract
Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) has become an important pest attacking tropical fruits and floral buds in South China in recent years. An attempt was made to study the occurrence and control of this pest infesting four tropical fruits : mango (Mangifera indca), carambola (Averrhoa carambola L), custard apple (Annona squamosa) and Guava (Psidium guajava). The highest number of adults of B. dorsalis was found once or twice, which generally coincided with the fruit mature stage. The population of B. dorsalis (Hendel) was observed to be obviously higher in the Carambola orchard than in the other three orchards. Phoxim and chlorpyrifos were found effective to control the larvae of B. dorsalis (Hendel), and the abamectin, trichlorphon, lambda-cyhalothrin were effective to control the adults of B. dorsalis. Sex attractants were important in the integrated population management of B. dorsalis.
