Abstract

Objective: To determine the efficacy of pars plana vitrectomy in the management of combined rhegmatogenous retinal and choroidal detachment. Methods :The clinical data of 41 patients with combined rhegmatogenous retinal and choroidal detachment and treated with pars plana vitrectomy from 1998 to 2001 in Tongren Hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Results: 38 eyes were succeeded and 3 eyes redetached in short time after first operation. 1~18 months after operation , 19 eyes (76%) were completely succeeded and 6 eyes redetached again. The rate of finding hidden breaks was obviously higher in vitrectomy. Conclusions:Pars plana vitrectomy is an effective way to manage comined rhegmatogenous retinal and choroidal detachment , and retinal reattached rate is higher than the conventional treatment.
