Tentative Study on Desertification and Sustainable Development in China

China is one of the most serious countries which are damaged by desertification. Desertification is one important factor which endangers the sustainable development of China.In this paper,the relationship between desertification and sustainable development in China is studied in three parts. Part 1:the basic conditions and features of desertification in China. The area of desertified lands is 262.2×10 4 km 2. There are many kinds of types of desertification and the development degree of desertification is high,for examples,there are wind erosion desertification and water erosion desertification and so on, and the severe degree desertified land takes 39.3% of the area of desertified land. In China, the development statu of desertification is very serious. Part 2: the major damages of desertification to the sustainable development in desertification region. Desertification bring about eco environment deterioration,which led to the degradation of peoples living conditions,and influenced on the people's living; Desertification results in the reduction of agricultural and pastoral production and the area of useful land,which seriously intensified the contradiction of population and farmland; Desertification can destruct many kinds of construction projects,for examples,highway and railway as well as reservoir and so on. Part 3: the relationship between desertification and sustainable development. Desertification not only damages the sustainable development of desertification region but also endangers the protection and improvement of our country's eco environment,heightens the difficulty to resolve the food problem of our country,restricts the steps to richen. Desertification will obstruct the national economic sustainable development and social improvement. Desertification has become the very important restriction factor to sustainable development of China. Now,the basic strategies to combat desertification and to realize sustainable development are to change concept and establish right guiding ideology for desertification combating, to develop national and large scale construction project to combat desertification, to formulate and realize preferential policies to improve the development of desertification combating construction project, to rely on science and technology progress to heighten the efficiency and velocity of desertification combating construction.
