Effect observation of total gastrectomy in treatment of elderly patients with gastric cancer

Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of total gastrectomy in treatment of elderly patients with gastric cancer. Methods 32 cases of elderly patients with gastric cancer,who were treated in our hospital from 2007 to 2009,were given total gastrectomy with curative recetion in 27 cases and conservative resection in 5 cases. Results In 32 patients in this group,1 case died with mortality rate for 3.12%.Postoperative complications occurred in 8 patients,the incidence was 25%.In postoperative follow-up,1 year survival rate was 83.9%,3 year survival rate was 64.5%,and 5 year survival rate was 48.4%. Conclusion Strictly grasping the operation indications of whole gastrectomy on elderly pa-tients,and actively doing a good job of intraoperative treatment can improve the curative effect of operation and survival rate.
