Abstract
According to the principle of riverbed evolution, with the observed data at certain stations, the method of movable bed model test was used to analyze the adjustment of water transport capacity during the channel shrinkage. The result shows that the adjustment of sediment transport capacity in the main river channel of the lower Yellow River mainly depends on the pattern of channel shrinkage, that the relationship between the sediment carrying capacity of flows and morphology of main river channel still accords with the law of riverbed evolution in general, and that the rate of sediment discharge decreases after channel shrinkage, however, there is not a certain relationship between the rate of sediment discharge and the pattern of channel shrinkage. Finally, it is concluded that channel shrinkage is reversible.
