Abstract
Objective: To observe the protective effect of LIANGGE POWDERS on intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury of rats. Methods: A total of 168 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: normal group, sham operation group, model group, LIANGGE POWDERS therapeutics group and LIANGGE POWDERS prevention and treatment group. There were 8 rats in normal group and 40 in other 4 groups. The I/R rat models were established by blocking the superior mesenteric artery in rats of sham operation group, model group, LIANGGE POWDERS therapeutics group and LIANGGE POWDERS prevention and treatment group. The model rats were subdivided into 5 groups, 3 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h and 72 h reperfusion after 45 min ischemia (n=8 for each). The values of Chiu’s score, D-lactic acid content of janitrix blood plasma, malondialdehyde (MDA) content and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity of intestinal homogenate, apoptotic index and the expression of the apoptotic protein Bax in the small intestine were measured in 5 subgroups. Results: After I/R, the structure of the intestinal mucosa was significantly injured. The values of Chiu’s score and D-lactic acid content of blood increased significantly. The intestinal MDA content increased and SOD activity decreased in rats of model group. The apoptotic index and the expression of Bax were obviously higher in intestinal mucosal cells of model group than those in other groups. After the intervention of LIANGGE POWDERS, the Chiu’s score and D-lactic acid content were decreased than those in model group. The value of D-lactic acid and MDA content decreased and SOD activity increased in subgroups except for that of 3 h group. The apoptotic index and the expression of Bax dropped as well. Conclusion: The I/R injury can destroy the function of intestinal barrier, and LIANGGE POWDERS can protect the intestinal mucosa through cleaning the oxygen free radical.
