Abstract
Aquaporin-4 (AQP4),a water-channel protein,is highly expressed in the brain, predominantly in astrocyte foot processes at the borders between the brain parenchyma and major fluid compartments, controlling water fluxes into and out of the brain parenchyma.Dysfunction or abnormal regulation of AQP4 is associated with some disorders of brain, such as brain edema, hydrocephalus, stroke, tumor, infection, epilepsy, and traumatic brain injury. This paper reviewed the newest progression of AQP4 and brain edema.
