On the Transcendental Consciousness of Taoism

The Taoism has a strong consciousness of transcending natural limitation and finitude of life.The article discusses the manifestations of these two kinds of transcendental consciousness,analyzes the historical rationality and limitations of the consciousness,and points out its modern enlightening and educational significance.This article considers that the transcendental consciousness of Taoism reflects a reasonable wish of the ancients and exhibits their striving spirit.Some adverse consequences are caused by the transcending consciousness,but on the other hand,it also brings a series of positive achievements.Though the Taoists' long-term transcendental exploring activities have not reached the expected aims,the strong transcendental consciousness and the clinging enterprising spirit that they exhibits are praiseworthy spiritual wealth for our Chinese traditional culture.
