Abstract
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the efects of chemotherapy alone, radiotherapy alone, chemotherapy plus radiotherapy on non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the Waldeyer ring (W-NHL) patients, and to analyze the impact factors of prognosis. METHODS:A total of 157 patients were treated between 1993 and 2001.All the patients were confirmed by histopathology as W-NHL,including 116 T celL in origin,35 B celL and 6 other pathology in origin. The Waldeyer ring and neck were the main radiotherapy target volume, and the dose of tumor was in a range of 40 Gy-65 Gy(4-7 weeks). The chemotherapy, given before or during after radiotherapy or alone, consisted mainly of CHOP, also with COP, COPP, COMP, COBDP. The prognostic factors were analyed with the Cox model. RESULTS: The local control rates were 62%, 16% and 80% in radiotherapy alone, chemotherapy alone, chemotherapy plus radiotherapy and the 5-year survival rates were 30.43%,51.35% and 59.79%, respectively. The multifactor analysis showed that the symptoms and treatment methods were the most important prognostic factors besides Ann-Arbor stage, but gender, pathology, age had little effect on prognosis. CONCLUSION: Chemotherapy plus radiotherapy group achieves a better survival rate than radiotherapy alone.
