Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical effects of rigid gas permeable contact lens(RGPCL) for keratoconus after LASIK.Design Retrospective case series.Participants 31 patients(41 eyes) with keratoconic after LASIK.Methods 31 keratoconic patients were fitted with RGPCL and followed up for 1 to 60 months. The difference of the corrected vision was compared between RGPCL group and glasses group.Followed up for five years, the changes of the corneal curvature and astigmatism were observed.Main Outcome Measures Corrected vision, corneal curvature, corneal astigmatism. Results The keratoconic patients after LASIK with RGPCL got better corrcected vision than those with glasses. In the mild, moderate, and severe keratoconic groups, the mean corrected vision with glasses and with RGPC were(0.7±0.2) and(1.0 ±0.1)(P=0.005),(0.3±0.2) and(1.0±0.1)(P=0.000),and(0.1±0.1) and(0.8± 0.2)(P=0.000),respectively.The corneal mean curvature with RGPCL after one year became larger gradually, then the fluctuation of corneal mean curvature was less than 0.05 mm.The mean corneal astigmatism decreased gradually after being treated with RGPCL for half a year, then increased only 0.25 D after 3 years, finally again decreased after 5 years. There were not significant changes in corneal curvature and astigmatism with RGPCL.Conclusions The RGPCL is effective for keratoconus after LASIK.
